At the heart of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It is the undying and sentimental love and romance between Rosalind and Orlando and the magic that their love creates in their world. Through the inspiration of color and atmosphere in the paintings of Maxfield Parrish, I emphasized and highlighted the magic of the lovers’ romance through the lighting, while also meeting the challenge of portraying Autumn, Winter, and Spring throughout the production primarily through color and texture in the lighting design.
